FAQ

What's with all the rats?

It's no secret that New York City is run by rats. But what you might not know is that the rats will give you luck—if you know how to ask.

In 2011, Grace started the rat luck movement. The rules are simple: When you see a rat, say "rat luck" out loud, and good luck will find you.

Maybe your train arrives just as you walk into the station, you land that big job, or you meet the love of your life randomly one day at the beach. That's rat luck.

We've adopted the mer-rat as our wedding symbol to honor the rat luck that brought us together and to carry as much of it as possible into our future.

Where should I stay?

Our venue is in a quiet residential corner of Brooklyn. Hotels in the immediate area are limited, but the options below are about a 30-minute subway ride or 15-minute car ride from the venue, with easy access to major train lines that can get you almost anywhere else in the city for sightseeing, too.

Ace Hotel Downtown Brooklyn
252 Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, New York 11217

EVEN Hotel Brooklyn by IHG
46 Nevins Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Downtown Brooklyn Holiday Inn
300 Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, New York 11217

These are far from the only options, though—New York is your oyster! Just please note that commuting to the wedding venue and welcome party from Midtown Manhattan by train will likely take an hour or longer, and an Uber or Lyft can get quite expensive.

For an easier commute, we recommend staying in or near Downtown Brooklyn, Park Slope, Gowanus, or Boerum Hill.

What's the dress code?

We want you to feel stylish and comfortable.

For the welcome party, think casual and cool. This is the perfect opportunity to break out that vintage leather jacket you never get to wear, don sneakers with a blazer, or—if you're Kevin Conte—maybe even wear your coolest Pirates hat.

For the wedding, please wear something that makes you feel good and ready to dance. We're calling this dress code 'artistic cocktail.'

Do you have a registry?

Your presence is a gift, but upon request we did make one, which you can view here.

Where's the ceremony?

The ceremony will be held indoors at the beautiful Urbane Arts Club, a Victorian house in Brooklyn's historic Ditmas Park neighborhood.

You can expect a cozy atmosphere, with plenty of room to step away from the dance floor and cool down throughout the night.

How do I get there?

All venues and events are easily accessible via the subway, but please note that weekend schedules can vary, and service may be less frequent.

Welcome party
Halyards Bar is accessible via the F/G/R trains at 4 Av–9 St, followed by an approximately 8-minute walk.

Wedding
The Urbane Arts Club is accessible via the Q train at Beverley Rd, followed by an approximately 6-minute walk. It's also accessible via the B/Q trains at Church Av, followed by a roughly 13-minute walk.

Are kids welcome?

Absolutely!

Will there be an open bar?

Yes. There will be open bars at both the welcome party and the wedding, with plenty of nonalcoholic options as well.

What if I have other questions?

Feel free to reach out to Grace or Allaire with any questions!
